Introducing a newborn into your life, as you know, introduces multiple challenges and so far I've found precious little time for anything beyond baby care. But everyday I can't help thinking how much I love Zahari's birth story and how happy and proud I am of what we were able to do. The ultra positive impact of your presence and assistance in the days leading to and on the day of Zahari's birth is something that will always be with me. You amaze and inspire me and Jon and I feel honored to have been able to partner with you.

Nancey was my "birth mentor" if not my "birth mother."  A wiser and more loving woman I have not known.  She prepared and nurtured me for my birth...and when we were we hit with bumps on the road during the long labor, she guided, massaged, encouraged, inspired and calmed me. Without her I really don't think I could have made it (40 hour labor, baby posterior and born naturally at 9 lbs 13 oz).  I thought a "doula" was a lovely indulgence when having my first child, but soon realized for me it was a necessity. Nancey was more than just a doula.  I consider her a friend and a part our family.

I would recommend Nancey's services to any woman who is considering hiring a doula. I never forgot that Nancey is completely capable of delivering babies as a midwife and this provided great comfort to me. As a doula, her medical expertise, kind and gentle presence and love for women and childbirthing are clearly evident in her care for new mothers. In the event of my labor and delivery, Nancey's hand was a firm reassurance that everything I needed was right there beside me. My husband and I are truly grateful for finding her!

I always think of you when I pass in front of Roosevelt [Hospital]. It will have been two years next month, but I'm still very grateful that you pointed me in the direction of natural childbirth—it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It's a shame that it's so rare, that so many women are so scared to do it—I took [a new mother's exercise] class a few weeks ago and out of 15 women only 3 of us had had natural childbirth. And we were the only 3 that hoped to have another baby at some point as well.

We wanted to quickly thank you so very much for the fabulous   childbirth "tutorial." We both learned a lot and feel much more prepared for the labor process and confident in our abilities to cope (especially me!). I keep reminding myself of your phrase that you have absolute faith in the labor process, which I think I may chant while I'm in labor if I become doubtful of my ability to get through it. We appreciated gaining the benefit of your 
perspectives and experiences, and Jason found the "refresher" of some information he had learned in medical school particularly informative. You created an efficient class, squeezing a lot of information into a relatively short period of time, and for that we are extremely grateful.

While I was confined to my home on bedrest, Nancey gave my husband and me private childbirth classes.  Nancey did a wonderful job preparing us not only for the birth of our twins but also for life as new parents.  She is extremely knowledgeable and provided insightful advice about the entire process, tailoring her classes to our specific situation.  She is a very warm and understanding person who answered a myriad of questions and made a stressful time easier for us.

Having Nancey as our doula added a very calming and comforting element to our birth experience. She was able to give us full support while letting us have our space as well. The wonderful back massages and encouraging words helped me tremendously. I never once veered off into wondering if I could do it because, along with my husband, Nancey helped me keep my focus on the present moment. Throughout my pregnancy she was always available for conversation or email, and I always felt listened to and understood. In her follow up visit after our son was born, Nancey gave us a lovely detailed account of our birth experience from her perspective, and we will cherish it always. On that visit she also doled out a perfect amount of motherly love and some basic new mummy tips. She will always be a special person to us as she helped create a wonderful environment in which I was able to have the birth experience I hoped for.
