I spent much of my life as a professional dancer and performed nationally and internationally with several modern dance companies. I taught dance technique, choreography, and anatomy for dance at Swarthmore College, Barnard College, and in Paris. During that time, I became certified as an Alexander Technique teacher, and have also studied and worked in other bodywork therapies such as the Pilates technique.
Towards the end of my dance career, I became pregnant with my first child and was introduced to midwifery. The supportive and holistic care I received during my pregnancy and labor fueled my desire to become a midwife and childbirth educator. In 1997, I received my master’s degree in midwifery from Columbia University and since then have worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, birth centers, and homes. In my work with pregnant women, I emphasize the normalcy of pregnancy and birth, and help my clients with individualized approaches to meet each woman’s unique needs.
I provide gynecological care to all women throughout the life cycle, childbirth preparation education for pregnant women and partners, and doula services for labor and birth in New York City and upstate New York.
I am on the faculty of the St. Luke’s - Roosevelt Hospital Parent Education department, and I practice well-woman gynecology at Village Obstetrics and the Ryan-Nena Community Health Center.
I have given birth to my two wonderful children, Lia and Zack, and, since 2004, am a proud stepmother of my husband’s two children, Adam and Eliza.
My education includes:
Brown University, B.A.
University of Michigan, M.F.A in Dance
Columbia University, B.S.N. and M.S.N. in midwifery
